1. ¿Cómo llegan a esta noche?

2. Su aroma favorito…

3. El masaje ideal es…

At-home spa night: warm oil massage

By Mia & Marco · 6-min read · Earn flames 🔥 as you read

There was a time when we got home so tired that our only "romantic plan" was falling asleep before ten. Until one Sunday Mia said: "We're not going out tonight. Tonight the spa comes to us." Warm towels, a candle, heated oil and no rush. Ever since, spa night has been our favorite rytual. Here's how to set it up, step by step.

What kind of spa do you need tonight?

1. How are you arriving at tonight?

2. Your favorite scent…

3. The ideal massage is…

1. Set up the room like a real spa

The mood is half the massage. Turn the heat up a little: with bare, oiled skin, the chill sets in fast. Lay a big towel or an old sheet over the bed (oil stains). Low light, a few unscented candles away from curtains and sheets, and a slow playlist at least an hour long.

Have everything within reach before you start: the oil, two towels, a pillow for under the ankles, water for afterwards. Phones on silent, in another room. Nothing kills a moment like getting up to look for something.

Warm the towels in the dryer for a few minutes. When he wraps her up at the end of the massage, that warm hug will beat any hotel spa.

2. Warm oil, no surprises

Mia and Marco
Warm oil, always tested on the wrist first.

The safest way to warm oil is a homemade water bath: set the closed bottle in a bowl of hot tap water for a few minutes. Skip the microwave, since it heats unevenly and can burn. Before touching your partner's skin, always test a few drops on the inside of your wrist: it should feel warm and pleasant, never hot.

Another lovely way: rub the oil between your hands before touching. Never pour cold oil straight onto a back (unless you want a yelp, not a sigh).

If it's your first time with an oil, do a patch test on the forearm a day before. And remember: oil weakens latex condoms. If a condom comes next, wash your hands well and switch to a water-based gel. More in our gels and oils guide.

3. Massage candles: the magic that melts

Massage candles, like our Melting Candle or Amber Vanilla, are made of skin-friendly waxes and oils that melt at a low temperature. You light them for a few minutes, blow them out, and the melted wax becomes a warm, scented oil.

The rules are simple: use only candles made for massage (a regular decorative candle can burn skin). Blow it out before pouring, wait a moment and always test on your wrist. Pour from a low height, a little into your hand first and then onto the skin. And never leave a lit candle unattended.

With her eyes closed, let a thin stream of warm candle oil fall onto her lower back. Wait two seconds before touching. Anticipation is part of the massage.
Spicy note: the vanilla scent stays on the skin until the next day. Get ready for him to miss you at the office.

4. The slow sequence: from the back to… wherever it leads

The back. Her face down, him at her side or gently seated behind. Open hands, long strokes from the waist up to the shoulders, along either side of the spine (never pressing straight onto the bones). Slow. Slower still.

Shoulders and neck. This is where the whole week's stress lives. Thumb circles, gentle pressure, and ask: "like this? harder?" Then move down the arms to the hands, finger by finger.

Legs and feet. From the ankles upward, palms flat, always toward the heart. Feet deserve a chapter of their own.

And then… the peach is grateful for warm oil too. When she turns over, the twins, the belly, the hips… There are no instructions there: just listening. Every caress is a question, and she's the one who answers.

The "almost" rule: during the massage, the hands come close to the bunny… and drift away. Once, twice, three times. Until she asks them to stay.

5. Taking turns: tonight you, tomorrow me

Tonight it's her turn. Tomorrow, the captain's.

A good couples spa has turns. Ideally the one receiving only receives, without feeling they have to "return" the favor right then. It can be another night, or the same one after a while. Agree beforehand so nobody's left waiting.

And he deserves his spa too: a loaded back, work shoulders, tired feet. Many men are never pampered like this, and they find out they love it.

6. The after: the care that closes the rytual

Don't end abruptly. A warm towel, a long hug, a glass of water. If you like, a shower together to rinse off the extra oil (carefully, the floor gets slippery). And a few minutes lying down without talking, just breathing together.

If either of you notices any skin discomfort, redness or burning, wash the area with water and mild soap, and if it doesn't improve, see a health professional.

🤔 Myth or truth?

Tap each card to find out.

Myth. Only candles made for massage. A decorative candle can burn skin.
Truth. Always, before touching your partner. It should feel warm, never hot.
Myth. Receiving without owing anything is part of the gift. The other's turn can be another day.

🎡 Where do we start tonight?

Can't decide? Let the wheel choose.

Ready?

✅ Your spa night

Tick it together. It's saved on this phone.

Our advice: don't think of it as a massage "to get somewhere," but as a complete gift. If more happens afterwards, lovely; if you fall asleep in each other's arms, lovely too. The candles and oils are in Mia & Marco's Boutique, and Rytuals has more ideas to make it a habit.
